Freeman-Seery

Y-DNA Project

Project History

The Project started in January 2022 when my Family Tree DNA Big Y test was processed. The result showed that my Freeman line, who came from Barnahesker, Aghamore, Mayo shared a common ancestor with another Freeman line from Corracogill South, Tibohine, Roscommon located about 8km away. After making contact with my fellow Freeman relative, we have been busy researching and recruiting other Freemans from the area to also test. Due to a recent discovery this has now been extended to include the Seery surname most commonly found in County Westmeath.

The purpose of this website is to share our findings as they occur and to provide the best interpretation of the data. Hopefully this will encourage more participants and eventually lead to a greater understanding of the deeper origins of the Freeman-Seery surnames.
