Key observations
- The tested members of the Aghamore Subcluster (Ballinacostello, Agahataran, Cartron North & Corracogill South) share a common ancestor who was born about 1719AD which is approximately 3-4 generations before their eldest recorded ancestors.
- The Aghamore Subcluster and the Tibohine Subcluster share a common ancestor who was born about 1515AD which is consistent with the Dillon linked migration mentioned later.
- The Aghamore and Tibohine Subclusters share a common ancestor with a tester who comes from Lurgan, Co Westmeath, close to the ancestral home of the Dillon family and strongly suggests this was the area from which they migrated from before settling in Tibohine Parish, Roscommon. This common ancestor was born about 1347AD.
- The Barnahesker Freemans share a common ancestor with the Aghamore & Tibohine Subclusters and the Lurgan, Co Westmeath tester who was born about 1133AD. Due to this early date and lack of any closer matches in the Connaught area, this likely represents a second later migration event that brought the Barnahesker Freemans North to Connaught.
- All matching testers are related to a Seery line from Clonmellon, Westmeath that provides us with an earliest common Seery ancestor who was born about 1080AD.
- The Castlerea subcluster has a completely different haplogroup to the Aghamore & Tibohine subclusters but given its size and closeness to them it is more than likely this is due to a NPE (Non-Parental Event) branch that formed prior to 1626.
- The results of the Corrigans Upper, Sligo and the Castletown Geoghegan. Westmeath testers indicate unrelated haplogroups. Discussion on these will be covered in the relevant Analysis section.
A summary of the results of these can be seen in the following diagram. It shows the relationship between the Connaught Freemans and Westmeath Seerys along with the possible placement of the Castlerea (NPE) subcluster.
